Parent/Carer Sessions

When working with children and teenagers, particularly those younger than 16 years old, it is often helpful to involve parents and carers in the therapeutic process to some degree. I sometimes meet with parents and carers without ever meeting the child, to provide parenting support.

How much will I be involved with my child's therapy sessions?

The degree of involvement varies depending on the presenting difficulties, the child’s age, and what is felt to be most useful for the child following an assessment. A parent might be required to join for part of each session, or the occasional session for a review.

Do you offer separate parent sessions without the child present?

Yes, it will sometimes feel necessary to have one or more separate parent sessions throughout the duration of your child's therapy. Whether this is needed, and the frequency of these parent sessions, will depend on the difficulties your child is experiencing, in addition to specific questions and challenges you may have that are best addressed without the child present.

I also offer parent-only sessions where I never meet your child. The frequency of these sessions will depend on the challenges that you are hoping for support with.

How long are parent-only sessions?

Parent-only sessions tend to be 50 minutes long, however sessions can be arranged to be shorter or longer depending on what needs to be discussed.

How much do sessions cost?

Sessions cost £130 for 50 minutes. Any shorter or longer sessions will be charged at a pro-rata rate. Any additional work, such as letter or report writing, or liaison with other services, is also charged at £130 per 50 minutes.

Sessions can be self-funded, however I also see people who have private health insurance. I am currently registered with Bupa, Aviva, AXA, and Cigna, however if you are registered with a different company I can look into registering with them.

Where are sessions held?

Sessions take place either online via a video platform (e.g. Zoom) or face-to-face at the Cherry Tree Therapy Centre in Buckhurst Hill, Essex, IG9 6EU.
